About Finner

“Finner” is Andrew Finn – a radio talk show host, a university professor, and a professional keynote speaker.

Finner began in radio with The Andy Finn Show on WRFL radio (Lexington, KY). About 10 years ago The Andy Finn Show moved to WGMU (Fairfax, VA), and then to WEBR (Fairfax, VA). In 2010, Finner teamed with frequent radio guest Clark to create The Finner & Clark Expedition

Finner is an award-winning speaker and trainer. He is a member of the National Speakers Association and a member of the Board of Directors of its Washington, DC Chapter (NSA-DC). Finner speaks and trains on presentation skills, personal & professional development, interpersonal communication skills, and paradigms & cognitive complexity.

Finner is an Associate Professor of Communication at George Mason University. He teaches public speaking, interpersonal communication, and intercultural communication. GMU students have twice voted him “Best Teacher” in the Department of Communication. Finner received a B.S. in Mathematics from St. John Fisher College (Rochester, N.Y.), an M.A. in Experimental Psychology from SUNY at Geneseo, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Washington University (St. Louis). He has previously taught at the University of Kentucky, Rutgers University, the University of Maryland, and New York University.

Finner became a full-time academic after a career in the tech sector, primarily with AT&T and Bell Laboratories. There he focused on communication and information technologies from a variety of perspectives including: human factors and user interface design, technology implementation and training, voice mail product management, and voice processing product line planning.

Finner grew up on a farm (in upstate New York) and has been a bartender, a computer programmer, and a small business owner. He currently lives in Fairfax County, Virginia.
